The Problem
David Moss Corporation (DAMOS) manufactures and supplies PE and PVC pipe and fittings, as well as underground ventilation systems, for both Australian and international mining, industrial, civil utilities, government and agricultural sectors.
DAMOS wanted to install more electrical equipment and, instead of spending over $350,000 upgrading their transformer, contacted Quality Energy for an alternative.
Quality Energy installed Power Quality Monitors and, after analysing the data, identified that DAMOS's power factor was an extremely low 0.63.
The Solution
Quality Energy recommended a total of 1.7MVAr Power Factor Correction (PFC) to reduce the site's maximum demand.
Two Quality Energy Power Factor Correction Units including a 900kVAr PFC and a 800kVAr PFC for the west and east switchboards respectively, were custom designed, built, delivered, installed and commissioned at their site in Geebung, Queensland.
